Sailor's Delight
this is for an upcoming gallery show in Philadelphia:
All Hands On Deck

it didn't turn out exactly as i'd hoped but here it is. i've been looking at a lot of single panel cartoonists from the 50s and 60s like Bob Tupper and Parch. They have a great simplicity to heads, hands, and arms that i admire, i don't feel i captured that here but it's a quickie anyway.. I think it's time to break out the pens, i like vectors but moving the old hand around is always a good thing.

Cartoon Network and Leprechauns
Here's some Leprechauns to enjoy. I am not Irish but I enjoy potatoes and the Pogues like I am. so there.

Also:
So I just got back from a trip to Burbank to visit some studios including Cartoon Network.
My buddy Joe Game is a Production Coordinator for Adventure Time (premiering in just a few short weeks in April), so I got the grand tour and got to see where all the magic happens.
Here's some photos from the trip:

I'm geeking out over seeing Aeon Flux creator Peter Cheung's cube:

One Last One for 2009

Okay, it's kind of a redo but needed something I could play around to explore some things. I definitely locked down some things stylistically and finally find a really nice enriched black that I liked after a long struggle.
A frustrating point of doing 'cartoony' stylized work seems to me to be that unless it's very detailed visually, or the content is weird or 'deep' people don't seems to even take more than a 2 second look and move on. Simpler fun character based illustrations of the past by people like Roy Nelson, V. Partch, Devito, or Gene Hazleton have gone to the wayside save for the animation community or cartooning afficionados.
